How to obtain an Australian birth, marriage, name change or death certificate
Under the Australian Privacy Act, the Australian Embassy in Lisbon cannot obtain a birth, marriage, name change or death certificate from Australia on your behalf.

If the Portuguese authorities require that your Australian birth, marriage or death certificate be authenticated you will require to have an Apostille of the Hague stamp placed on the original certificate.
Please note: Apostille stamps may not affixed to marriage certificates issued by a marriage celebrant at your marriage. An Apostille stamp may only be affixed to an Australian marriage certificate issued by the State or Territory Registrar of Births, Deaths & Marriages.
The Australian Embassy in Lisbon is able to issue apostille stamps on Australian documents.
