TEMPORARY PART-TIME POSITION
RESEARCH/ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY, LISBON
The position is part-time and will be for the period from October 2010 until October 2011, with a possible extension.
Applicants are requested to read carefully the Selection Criteria and Job Description. A Statement of Claims (not exceeding two pages) addressing each point of the Selection Criteria should be the centrepiece of your application. A curriculum vitae should also be included containing the contact details of two referees.
Four copies of your Statement of Claims and Curriculum Vitae should reach the Embassy, via post or hand delivered, by close of business on Friday 9 July 2010, addressed to The First Secretary, Australian Embassy, Avenida da Liberdade, 198-200, 1250-147 Lisboa.
The successful applicant will need to obtain a police security clearance, prior to taking up the position at the Embassy.

Following is the Selection Criteria and Job Description for the position.
SELECTION CRITERIA
(a) Superior capacity to:
(i) research, advise, analyse and report on political, trade and economic developments in Portugal, particularly those with implications for Australia
(ii) facilitate commercial contacts between Australia and Portugal
(iii) carry out public diplomacy duties, including responding to media and public information enquiries and assistance with developing Australian studies programs and academic contacts between Australia and Portugal
(b) Very good oral and written communication skills
(c) Very good interpersonal skills, adaptability and flexibility, ability to work as a member of a small team
(d) Fluency in English and Portuguese (both written and oral)
(e) Good computer skills, Windows XP and Office 2007
JOB DESCRIPTION
RESEARCH/ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
1. Research
(a) assist with advice, research and reporting on political, economic, aid and trade developments in Portugal and Portuguese speaking countries, particularly those of interest to Australia
(b) assist with advice on promotion of Australian trade and investment opportunities in Portugal
(c) provide appropriate public information material, including through the web-site, for dissemination to media, and in response to general and student enquiries
2. Administration, Consular and Passports
(a) Assist with the Embassy's clients in the reception area and attend to the Embassy's switchboard
(b) Assist with routine consular and passports tasks as required
(c) Assist with other administrative tasks as required, such as;
? be a backup cashier for the Embassy, that is, receive money from clients and deposit cash/cheques received into Embassy's official bank account
? Assist accountant with some clerical work
3. Other duties as directed
