Plan ahead and don't leave your application for an Australian passport to the last minute. Allow a minimum of six weeks to renew or receive a new passport.
Australian passport applications
If you are located in Portugal, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau or São Tomé and Príncipe, please note the following options for applying or renewing an Australian passport overseas:
PC7 adults renewal by mail
If you are renewing a full-validity adult passport (PC7 form), you are eligible to submit your application by mail.
To submit your application by mail, all of the following must be true:
- You are an adult (18 years or older), AND
- Your most recent passport was issued when you were 16 years or over on or after 01/01/2006, AND
- You are not changing any of your personal details on the passport, AND
- Your most recent passport is/was valid for over 2 years at the time of issue, AND
- Your most recent passport has not been reported lost/stolen AND
- You are successfully able to answer the security questions on the website.
PC8 child renewals by mail
Eligibility:
-
under the age of 16 (i.e. 15 or below) and
-
has previously held an Australian passport

You can now lodge your PC7 renewal application and PC8 child renewal applications by post. All other application will have to be lodged in person. Click the relevant link for information on in-person or postal applications.
Please carefully read the the advice under the releveant learn more button under further information. Please allow a minimum of six weeks to receive your new passport after successful lodgement.
Ensure that you have all the relevant documents and that you have filled in the form correctly before booking an appointment with or sending the application to us.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) uses third-party software (Setmore) to manage the Embassy's appointments. Your personal information (including your name and contact details) will be collected by DFAT via Setmore to book your appointment and for related purposes. By proceeding with this booking, you are consenting to the collection of this information by Setmore on DFAT's behalf for these purposes. If this information is not collected, DFAT's ability to arrange your appointment will be limited.
